Notes on Supported Browsers
Browser support
I've been reworking the website for the Altman Laboratory at Emory University to make it easier to maintain the site and add new pages.
While I was at it, I have added a new navigation system in the menus at the left hand side. These are based upon the new book More Eric Meyer on CSS. The implementation of these menus is very simple and easy to maintain. Unfortunately, Microsoft's Internet Explorer 5.x (IE5) for the Mac does not support some new and simple features of CSS, and these menus do not work completely. If you are using Mac/IE5 (and maybe Windows/IE6), you will be able to click on a menu item at the and it will take you to a page where other links are available, but the pullout menus won't work.
Since Microsoft has announced that they will never update IE5 for the Mac, I urge Mac users to consider other modern, viable, and thriving (i.e. still being updated) alternatives as your default browser such as Safari, FireFox, Camino or OmniWeb. The techniques that I used for the menus are definitely supported in Safari 1.2—which requires System 10.3—but there is a chance that they may not be supported in earlier versions of Safari. I'm studying up on reasonable ways to have these menus degrade well in IE5 (and maybe Safari 1.1), but bear with me.
